In Act III, you can sell for 15,000 Gold each.

In Act II, the amount increases to 10,000.

In Act I, you can only sell items for up to 5,000 Gold each.

The most common currency is often runes, as these usually have a fixed value and are necessary for some of the most powerful equipment in the game. In Diablo II runes, gear, charms, and jewels are the most commonly traded items between players.

When trading with other players, gold is rarely used as a currency. Giving an item without something in return or getting an item without offering something yourself is also called trading in Diablo II. Trading is the act of giving and/or receiving items between two players, or between a player and an NPC.
